WHAT IF WE BUILT OUR WORLD AROUND HEALING?
WHAT IF WE BUILT OUR WORLD AROUND HEALING?
The Healing Project is an arts organization based in New York City, originally conceived in 2014 by composer, multidisciplinary artist, and activist Samora Pinderhughes.
The Healing Project partners with individuals impacted by structural violence to create artistic works, collective healing spaces, and advocacy initiatives that drive narrative and systemic change.
We envision a world built around healing rather than punishment, where systems of violence are replaced with systems of care.
WHAT IS STRUCTURAL VIOLENCE?
From the enslavement of Black people to the theft of Indigenous lands, the United States story begins with violence, forged by a culture of domination and dehumanization that persists today. “Structural violence” is a framework describing the interlocking structures—economic, political, legal, religious, and cultural—that make individuals and communities vulnerable to harm.
The centuries-long abolition movement helps us imagine and build restorative alternatives that transform the root causes of harm.
The Healing Project advances an abolitionist future through three programs.
